I think this doctor is very uncomfortable with bf at this age. Dr. Jack
Newman has some books and several online sites with his articles, and these
should all address starting solid foods. If the family does eat meat, then
that is a very good food to give him at this age. Beans and other foods that
have iron. Mom should ask a dietician perhaps for some food suggestions
(don't ask permission to keep bf), or go online. If they are vegan, then I
am not the expert on that but again she could inquire on proper food
offerings. The issue is not continued bf, that is very well and good as we
know. The issue is the introduction of nutritious and appropriate foods at
around 6 months of age. So this is what mom should focus on, in my opinion.
La Leche League or NCT or other bf support networks should also be able to
help mother in this realm.
