In case you missed my previous post:

I am wondering why this mother has such propensity to Candida
infection/overgrowth?
Have underlying conditions in the mother been ruled out and treated?
Consider steroid treatment (for asthma, arthritis, allergies...) Diabetes
mellitus, HIV infection, antibiotics, even frequent bathing and showering
that thoroughly removes normal flora from skin and mucosae.
I was taught that re-infections come most easily from other warm mucosae
rather than cold hard objects like toys! So have the mom use fluconazole
which will treat her digestive tract as well as the whole genital tract and
breasts. And have the husband tested - or empirically treated. And any
siblings.... Everyone simultaneously, so that there isn't a nidus of
infection anywhere afterwards.

Subject: thrush

HELLPPP!
I have permission to post. I have been working with a mother who seems to
have reaccurring yeast infection. She has tried everything I know. Gentian
Violet both mom and baby, Mom tx with Diflucan for 2-3 weeks. Baby treated
with nystain after each feeding for 6 weeks. Mom can see thrush in babies
mouth. She changes her bra daily, no pads, no pacicifers. Not feeding EBM.
Using Lotrimin on infant bottom. Using paper towels instead of towel. Is
constantly washing her hands. Her signs and symptoms are as follows: at
first
she was having deep breast pain raidiating aroubd to her axilla. Now she
states there is no breast pain. But, the burning (I feel like I am on fire)
goes
from her back up her neck. She says she really doesn't asssociate the pain
with breastfeeding. The infant know has visible thrush. Con't nystatin. Mom
tearful getting very discouraged. I encouraged her to have dad treated even
though he has no symptoms. There are no siblings. I also encouraged a
breastmilk culture. I had her remove all current toys from the babies
environment. Please send me any suggestion or thoughts via lactnet or
private.
