Linda Smith says, "BFHI practices can overcome a lot of the consequences of a difficult and/or
medicialized birth. However, excellent postbirth management can't eliminate
all of the effects of opiates and procedures on the newborn."
Hear, hear! Not to mention the effect on maternal behaviors. Put any other pregnant mammal through American birth procedures and see if she accepts - let alone feeds - the baby. If I can inscribe the inside of my WWMD (or WWOMD - still deciding) bracelet, it will be "It's the birth, silly!"
