I'd ask if the doctor if he would give SlimFast an "A"...another highly
processed "food" that contains calories, vitamins, and minerals...but would
anyone say eating a well balanced diet fresh fruits and vegetables, whole
grains, lean meats, etc., was just little more healthy than drinking
SlimFast?

Betsy,
It depends on a lot of things -- I'm working a lot on acceptance in my life,
so I'm not as interested in convincing people. But not everyone is as wimpy
as I am about calling people on their errors.

The answers to the ped range from "Well, our babies all deserve an A+!"
as an immediate comeback, to a slightly longer and more direct comment to
the ped shortly afterwards, if you are face to face: "You know, I'd say
formula was a D or an F, depending on the situation, and definitely not an
A" to "I know some people think that formula is nearly as good, but I've
found lots of studies that have convinced me it's not. Would you like me to
share some with you?" Or if you have heard it from the mother, you could
either be evasive and simply send good information "FYI" or say to the ped:
"I'm a bit concerned when you suggest to mothers that formula is nearly as
good as breastmilk. We're working really hard to support breastfeeding, and
this mother was confused about the message she got from you, compared to our
literature / conversation." Literature from his own peers would be most
convincing.

Just a few suggestions; I'm sure others will have more and better ideas.

Jo-Anne
