Jaye's and Melinda's posts reminded me of what for me is an ongoing
issue--what's up with discharge planning? I confess to being ignorant of
the ins and outs of this process. It makes sense to me that, if a
motherbaby is having breastfeeding difficulty, part of the discharge plan is
a referral to an appropriate source of help/support. Surgical patients have
a plan; in some hospital systems, a f/u appointment is made before baby is
discharged. Could not breastfeeding assistance be part of discharge
planning, with the appropriate appointment made before discharge? Does this
happen anywhere (more than a sheet of paper with phone numbers, among the
other 25 sheets of paper that are part of that packet)?
