Dear Rachel, I just listened to a tape from the 2006 ILCA convention.
Communication Techniques: Building Blocks for Effective Interactions by
Glenda Dickerson and now I'm listening to The Relational Teaching Model:
Tools for Training Resistant Hospital Staff. Funny thing is I went to the
second sessions and I'm getting even more by relistening to tapes. Anyway
these are good places to start.
First of all, just observe at your new job. Don't jump in and say (esp as
new grad) that YOU are doing this all wrong! Observe what's going on, do
what you know how to do with your patients. Let staff get to know you
and let them see that you know how to care for mothers and babies. Let that
speak for itself, don't preach to them :-) It's a long process and you
are just at the beginning.
Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
