The problem with the SNS, is we have very little to do with its success and 
its use.
It has to be the committed mom who really is willing to go to all lengths to 
succeed.
when you say - "complicated can be good for encouraging the mom to fully 
breastfeed - if it's possible." It can only be good if the MOM feels that it 
is a positive experience, and that is not always the case. We cannot 
determine what is good for the mom. After years of experience, one can 
usually see in the body language and facial expressions, which moms are 
going to go for this intervention. I always prefer it and will suggest it, 
but I wait for the signs to know when to even carry on describing it. I also 
use a 20 ml syringe because they both come in sterile packaging and the tube 
fits tightly on the syringe so there is no spilling. It can be tucked under 
the bra strap, whereas a bottle needs a long tube and a surface on which to 
place it. just personal preference.

It is ideal and wonderful if it works and if the mom is happy with this. But 
sometimes overenthusiasm on our part can be intimidating - and can leave the 
mom thinking there is something wrong with her, if she can't bring herself 
to do this. I am certainly speaking from personal experience when a few 
years back, a mom I helped years ago, actually told me that I put her right 
off when mentioning this system and in the end she gave up breastfeeding 
altogether. Now, I do not take responsibility for her decision to quit, but 
I did learn a lesson and really thanked her for sharing that with me. It 
made me start looking good and hard, at how moms react to what I am sharing 
and suggesting.
