Hi, All: I got a phone call yesterday from a mom I saw with both her babies.
She had a terrible time with recurring plugged ducts with the 1st - none of the
standard tried and true management techniques worked for her, but she
toughed it out and nursed for over a year. Same thing happened with her
2nd. She discovered that the gel pads that cover the whole breast that can
be microwaved or refrigerated did the trick for her. I usually recommend hot
wash cloths, a heating pad or hot water bottle for the heat. She thinks what
eased her plugs with the hot gel pads was the fact that they remained warm
for a much longer period of time than other methods and they conform to the
breast.
I will definitely recommend the gel pad route from now on!
Boy, the things our moms teach us! By the way, Tom Hale did not invent
Cheap All Purpose Nipple Ointment - one of my moms did several years ago
when she couldn't get ahold of her OB for the scrip. She rummaged thru her
medicine chest at home, combined the ingredients, used it, and called me back
2 days later, completely cured!
