Chayn,
Having the right CST practitioner makes all the difference! Do you have
one that you have worked with that DOES make a difference? Our grandson
was born in July and wasn't latching/latching correctly. No matter what
I did, things did not get better. So I went on and on to my son and
daughter in law how wonderful CST is and how it can help. They live 3 hr
from me so my " CST wonder worker" wasn't an option. I went to the
Upledger website and found someone who had the courses needed, talked to
them on the phone about working on infants, and so we went. Our
experience was the same as your client's. I was so discouraged. I knew
CST could help, but NOT all CST therapists are the same. My daughter in
law is pumping and bottle feeding expressed milk. Our grandson is 5
months today and such a joy! She is so dedicated and is doing such a
good job, but pumping isn't the same as feeding at the breast.

I attended the Hale/Hartmann research conference in Virginia in
September. Donna (Ramsey) Geddes presented with some great videos of
infant suck. You could see the tongue, the nipple and the palate and
their movement during suck. She says that the nipple does NOT reach
clear back to the soft palate (that's what I'd always learned!) and so
the compression stripes we see are not necessarily shallow latch. They
were able to monitor the pressure in the baby's mouth and some babies had
pressure as high as 300 mm. Ouch! She said that the pressure did seem
to go down after time, but what mom can handle that? Again I think this
is something that CST could fix or at least help. Donna didn't have any
specific fixes, said they were working on that.

Warmly,
