Thanks to those who have replied to my wonderings.  Several people have 
now pointed out that the nursing profession faces a similar situation in terms 
of its myriad of designations, and it seems that there is as much confusion in 
that industry as there is in ours.

And that is just my point:  Confusion.

I am still hoping someone, anyone, will tell me what all the lactation 
designations actually mean, what experience and knowledge they convey, and 
what can be done about it.
