High palates almost always mean tongue issues as the tongue spreads the
palate to be less domed. Also clicking is a sign of tongue issues. So
this baby is probably tongue tied, maybe a posterior tongue tied.
The problem with LCs is that not all are highly skilled or know enough
to help mothers. If this gal is an IBCLC, remember the test is entry
level and 96% pass. I have re-done consults for clients who saw another
IBCLC who did not recognize a tongue tie issue and I saw this problem
the minute baby opened his mouth. Mom was supposedly told there was no
reason baby could not latch and just rent a pump from me and pump and
bottle feed.
Of course, we do not really know exactly what the previous LC said to
the mothers. We are only hearing one side of the story.
