I wonder about removing the implants being beneficial since it would require
another surgery and new possibilities for further damage to nerves. I usually
ask a mother with implants to show me before and after pictures. I have
found in my experience that implants themselves are less of a concern for
production than the breast development that was the reason she felt the need
for augmentation. I show mothers pictures that match the 'before' pictures
when they have been struggling with production because it helps them to
understand that they did not 'cause' this with the surgery. Mothers have an
uncanny ability to make everything their fault. I find it helps them in the
decisions for breastfeeding management if they can understand the reasons
for where they are.
