Karyn-grace,

Anemia is a very complex subject and I am far from the expert here. There are many differnet kinds,
different pathophysiology even within a category of, say, iron deficiency anemia. If you do a simple google
or other search, you will find quite alot of sites and refs. I did find a site that states altered resistance to infection
can occur in iron def. anemia. I did not find the same for folic acid or B12 deficiency, however, these anemias
have far-reaching consequences on many body systems, and can be mild or severe. It seems from your post below that
she is doing better now and she may have a better handle on her problem, so have her be vigilant
about her bf management and seek assistance at the first sign of trouble. Best regards,
Laurie Wheeler, RN, MN, IBCLC
