As infants are not removed from the home for maternal marijuana only, and there is no research to date on the harms of THC for infants, we encourage mothers who use THC only to breastfeed, but counsel them that we do not know the long term effects of THC to infants through human milk, and that there is potential for harm with THC as well as any other drugs they may also use. We use breastfeeding as a carrot to try to reduce or eliminate maternal THC.
