Hi everyone,
My name is Claudia and I live in Mexico, and ....talking about atole I seem to
remember all the women Iīve seen and what they want is their mother. Itīs
a tradition throughout the years when a women has their baby , at least for
the first time, moms ( grandmothers)visits the daugher and even stay with her
to help her with the new born. Atole itīs part of a mexican menu and it
became part of our mexican tradition and it seemed to be a part of the new
moms diet for that reason. Somehow mexican women have assosiated their
moms nurturing them with atoles and at it seems to be like a "support tool "
for new mom from their moms. The problem is when babies get colicky and
many latin women with good nutrition have a hard time metabolizing lactose
products (remembeber reading about a metabolizing enyme that is missing
among latime wemen). Many wemen here still think that they have to "drink
milk in order to make milk " then the atole intake which has lots of milk! I
agree that low income moms that can not afford a good nutrition atole will
make them "make more milk", but with normal to hi income moms this just
makes their babies be more crancky. Itīs my point of view from what Iīve
seen. My conclusion is that if they make them feel loved its works, but lets
look to the babies reaction too.
