Hello ! In response to Ann Perry's request for info for premies- I was
remembering some older research from Paula Meier. It's 1988- Bottle and
breastfeeding: Effects on transcutaneous oxygen pressure and temperature
in preterm infants. NURSING RESEARCH , 37, 36-41.
Years ago, I was involved in some breastfeeding research at Children's
Hospital in Boston, working with infants with cardiac disease and we used
the above article as a basis of how infants did in fact hold their oxygen
sats better with breastfeeding than with bottle feeding.
I know it's a bit old- I don't know what's been done since. Paula Meier is
out of Rush Hospital in Chicago- I bet she'd give you some great stuff to
help you on your mission. Best of Luck and share your progress!!!
