Dear Friends:
I second the people who say "tell the mother that her breasts are perfect
for breastfeeding" when the OB gets to that part of the assessment.
Also, flat out tell a mother "I recommend that you breastfeed, for your
health and your baby's".
Refer any further questions about bf to either a nursing mothers' group
or someone who is passionate and informed, unless the OB is already passionate
and informed.
Have only bf promoting materials in the office that are free of any
commercial attachment. This includes pump literature about breastfeeding, as well
as formula company literature.
Invite the local nursing mothers' group to have a monthly meeting in the
office.
Keep track of how many women in the practice start breastfeeding and post
those statistics.
That would be wonderfully enough!
