Yesterday, at our provincial BFI meeting, we discussed the problem of babies from moms who have been given alot of IV fliuds during labour, having an "inflated" birth weight.  Then when they lose these excess fluids in the following hours/days, this looks like a drastic weight loss, and it is used as a reason to supplement with formula.

We were wondering about implementing a policy that used the weight from the *2nd* day, as the comparison to judge weight gains/loss by.

Does anyone do this, or has there been any studies done about this topic?  Please excuse if I am using the wrong terminology - I'm not a health professional and don't work in the health system  But I know we've discussed this issue here on Lactnet, but I don't remember anyone actually implementing a 2nd day weight as the measuring bar.
