We use Ameda pumps at my hospital, so the local rep sent us a packet of bookmarks with quick & easy positive info statements about BFing, some website referral cards, and a red paper container of sealed fortune cookies.
The vast majority of our moms are mono-lingual Spanish, so I am saving the bookmarks for the English-speaking moms and for staff. I placed the cookies in the nurses' lounge were cookies and donuts are usually scarfed up quickly, well before the end of lunch, minus the broken one that I ate so the pile would look attractive.
One nurse opened up a cookie and pulled out the fortune. "What's this?" I explained it's breastfeeding promotion and information because it's World Breastfeeding Week. "Oh. I just like the fortunes." And she threw cookie & fortune in the trash. By end of lunch, the red container was still full of cookies.
I don't see this same aversion to food & info provided by the ABM companies. Are they afraid they're going to "catch" breastfeeding?
