I remember my first LLL conference in Chicago back in 2001. I was tandem
nursing at the time. I never had tandem nursed in public before for fear of
the looks and comments. I remember feeling so at ease about it while there,
so I sat down on the floor while listening to Dr. Sears and nursed both my
toddlers:) There is this incredible feeling you get when you are surrounded
by loving mothers and fathers, who are also following their child's lead on
weaning. I only wish I could have went to every conference, but
unfortunately they are costly. Hopefully they will continue, maybe they
will have to be on a smaller scale. At that conference we stayed in the
Hilton and haven't been in a fancy hotel like that since. We still remember
the marbled walls and floor in the bathroom, lol. Somehow we were lucky
enough to get a corner room and had a great view of the city. Its LLL that
taught me how to be a mom that listened to her child and not the mainstream.
Oh, and as a funny side note, my 4 year old asked me to nurse her doll last
night. At first I didn't do it directly, but over my bra. She said "no you
have to do it for real!" So I lifted my bra and nursed the baby doll, lol.
I even showed her the different positions:) Then my 6 year old found
another doll and started nursing that one, I don't think they will have any
problems with positioning when they have their babies someday:)
