Makes perfect sense to me.  Point out to him that the most efficient way to accomplish this is to keep the baby in Kangaroo Mother Care (continuous KC from birth).  That way, he'll always get day milk in the day and night milk in the night.  Hey, whatever works to keep mom and baby together :-)
