I have yet to see anything in a textbook or other book about this, yet
have heard a lot of anecdotes! I was never able to lose weight while
nursing without it affecting my milk supply, in fact I actually gained.
I have talked to a lot of other moms who have found this to be true as
well - despite eating well, they find themselves so hungry that they
can't lose anything. I went straight from nursing into my second
pregnancy and DS is not weaned, but I have also talked to moms who have
said that the weight came right off as soon as they wean. For the
record, I am significantly overweight to begin with - so being
underweight is not a factor for me.
Yet I have also known moms who drop weight like crazy without even
trying, when they are nursing. I wonder what it is that makes us all
different like that? Any ideas from those of you who have been doing
this a while? This is just something I am wondering about, especially
because it seems to happen to so many women yet I have never seen it in
a book anywhere.
Thanks,
Liz Cammin RN
