Subject: snappy comeback, communication strategies, formula gets an A
Or one could ignore that he said anything about formula and try to
put this dumb comment in a positive light.

yup, yup I agree. Tempting as it is to toss off a snappy one-liner
(and richly though it may be deserved), a glass-half-full approach is
while less satisfying, better (i.e., more efficacious -- gets you
closer to your goal, which is encouraging bf all around) in the end.
The doc *was*, after all, agreeing that bm was best and just
reinforcing that is the safest trade-off of
reinforcement-to-chance-of-alienation (in either doc or pt).
On another point, I'm wondering whether a) the 4 yo in Oregon was
currently bf or just acquiesced under the circumstances and b)
whether it might be possible to actually relactate under such
emergency conditions -- wacky thought eh, but one to keep in mind
perhaps, for a snowy day??? It's a weird idea in the absence of
caloric intake, to generate only output (mother's milk) to sustain
life. It would be essentially eating yourself, but since kids
probably need more calories, I guess it's a way to share around total
energy among the family better. Rather than everyone being surprised
at the condition of the kids, I should think the condition of the
*mother* was what was most amazing! Such a hero!!!! -Sara; LLLL
