I'm also concerned about the airline regulations - which state that a
mother may bring
"formula, breast milk, or juice" if she is traveling with a baby or
young child. My first
question, of course, is why she would need to bring breast milk if
she's traveling WITH
her baby - duh!
That point aside, I think it's important to make a comment to TSA that
mothers who are
temporarily separated from their babies must be able to bring
expressed milk on board -
that it's essential for the health of their babies (as well as
essential to the health of
the mother that the milk be expressed).
I found a place on the TSA site where you can post a comment. Go to:
http://contact.tsa.dhs.gov/ then choose "Passenger and Travel
Information" from the drop
down. From there, you can choose "Traveling with children" as a topic
- and while this
doesn't exactly describe the needs of working moms traveling with a
pump, it seemed the
best choice.
If anyone comes up with a better way to let the TSA know of our
concerns, please post it!
Thanks,
Kirsten Berggren, PhD, CLC
