I have to tell you I heard of an odd situation here in southern Vermont this
week.A mother who had a recent breast reduction (and who didn't talk to me
about any of this....) told her visiting nurse, "I can't feed him with a
bottle when I'm out! This is Putney!" (The baby is not gaining weight and
she's fighting the idea of formula...what's wrong with this picture!! We do
have a very breastfeeding culture here and moms who are using a bottle when
they are out are likely to get asked why they're not breastfeeding, or are
given a lecture on why breastfeeding is best for your baby!
So a great reason to be a breastfeeding mom in a breastfeeding culture is,
it's fun to be out with your baby in a town where people think babies are
wonderful!
By the way - our WBW theme here is "Breastfeeding in Brattleboro: Over 25
Years of Promoting, Protecting and Supporting Nursing Moms." We've been
collecting pictures of Leaders, LCs, nurses and childbirth educators, and we
will have our 3rd Annual Art Show on August 4th at Gallery Walk.
We're already planning events for the 5th!
Dawn Kersula in Beautiful Brattleboro VT -- where we will present BIRTH the
Play Over Labor Day of course!
