Kathy an observational study reported by Dawn Hunter from
Christchurch Hospital in New Zealand noted a correlation between low
serum albumin levels, generalised oedema and a minimal milk supply.
She found that when the serum albumin levels came up, usually by
themselves after 5 to 7 days, that the oedema resolved and lactation commenced.
She hasn't pursued this observation with research. I'd love to see
some researchers tackle it because it isn't that rare.
In the meantime, doing the best you can with reverse pressure
softening for latching baby and I guess watching to see if baby needs
supplements are in order.
I'd love to hear the outcome of this case. Any chance you asking for
her albumin levels to be done?
