Hi!

About Risperidone, I´ve read on a reliable web page (www.e-lactanica.org, web page of the Pediatric Service of Marina Alta Hospital, a BFHI hospital here in Spain) that the level of risk is low.

It makes sense because of the pharmacokinetics:
Molecular weight: 411 (the greater the mw, the less the medication passes into the milk; at 500 almost nothing passes).

Protein binding: 90 % (the more it binds to protein, the less it passes into the milk; more than 80% is high binding).

Milk/plasma ratio: 0,4 (the lower it is <1, the less concentration the medication reaches in the milk).

Theoretical dose the baby would receive: 0.007 mg/kg/day which is very very low.

The half life of risperidone is 3 hours, so as an extra protective measure the mother could breastfeed the baby, take the medication and then wait for three hours before nursing again.

  Hope that helps!
