HI all:
Like Jan I've seen premies/babies go to breast after weeks of
resisting--including a set of twins. I sometimes wonder if there are
"windows" of opportunity or peak learning for babies ( and maybe for
mothers).
Twins' (fraternal, GIFT) mom had pumped and bottle/breast milk fed 36 weekers
for 4 weeks. Decided SHE (mom) was ready to get them to breast. Tried "cold
turkey" with both, which I advised against as a bit overwhelming. This
provied to be true and she was a mess after a day. She then decided to go one
at a time over a weekend. She totally cared and put one to breast (the
"weaker" sucker, which I found an interesting decision) while her husband
cared and bottle fed (breastmilk) the other. Both were exclusively breastfed
at the breast within three days, and they continued to breastfeed exclusively
for 6-7 months thereafter. One of my favorite stories. It just (ha, ha) took
"hanging in."
