Hey there,
Sporadic gas pain in an otherwise healthy, growing baby at 7 weeks of age
sounds pretty normal to me. I always admire the enthusiasm that mothers
put into researching things like this, but common things being common, the
baby is much more likely, without more serious symptoms like blood in the
stool (and nothing is wrong with green poop), to be behaving like a normal
baby than having reaction to a maternally ingested food product. Of
course, she's a nursing mom, and all of us nursing moms blame ourselves
for the what is happening with our baby, but maybe it's not her diet. I
would suggest that she does all the the things she knows how to do to
comfort her baby, and then focus on strategies for coping with a colicky
baby. My experience as a general pediatrician suggests that this gets
better in the next few weeks, so weaning seems a bit drastic and
unnecessary. If you are familiar with Dr. Karp's Happiest Baby on the
Black...this sounds like a good family for his techniques.
