Dear Terri,

You asked about Domperidone causing cardiac arrythmias........

"The mom gets migraines and sees a doctor for some other health conditions,
including high blood pressure. An EKG showed that she had a "prolonged QT
wave" and her cardiologist demands that she stop the domperidone immediately
or she will wind up with a permanent arrhythmia. Has anyone heard of heart
rhythm problems resulting from domperidone? The mom has three more weeks of
domperidone and she would like to continue, but is not sure what to do."

I recently asked the same question, because I have a client wanting to BRF a
foster/adopted child. Mom has had problems with tachycardia in the past.
Jack Newman's article on Dom states:

"In June of 2004, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) in the US put out a
warning against using domperidone because of possible cardiac side effects.
This unfortunate step was taken without considering the fact that the
cardiac side effects occurred only when the drug was taken intravenously by
otherwise very sick patients. In all the years I have used domperidone in
so many mothers, I have not yet heard of any significant cardiac side
effects that could be attributed to domperidone. Incidentally, the
Federal Drug Administration has no authority outside the US, and even in the
US, compounding pharmacies, who are not regulated by the FDA, are continuing
to provide patients with domperidone."

My client also referred to her cardiologist and after doing some research,
they told her that taking Dom was perfectly SAFE.
