Clarke, a retired physical therapist, has successfully managed to turn her own particular small thing into a 23-year-long success story, helping hundreds of needy new mothers feed their newborns.
She is modest about her own place in the history of INFANT -- Infants Need to Find Adequate Nourishment Today) -- and its accomplishments in providing baby formula to dozens of Chicago homeless shelters and food pantries. She prefers to focus on the work, on the group of school friends who helped her start INFANT back in 1983, or the second generation of women who have taken up the job.
