Just a wild thought:
This baby is 7 months old - twice the size he was when he was born. Is it possible that his mother hasn't been adjusting his position as he's grown, and he's now having to tuck his chin to nurse, rather than lifting it? That would make swallowing harder (and even breathing, with his nose tending to bury). See what happens if she shifts him several inches toward the other side...
