Well, I feel that poor moms pain! All I can tell you is our experience
with burns...my husband had 2nd and 3rd degree burns over 75 percent of
his body in 2001 and was hospitalized for that, however on discharge I was
his caretaker as there were no nurses, etc that knew how to take care of
burns so the docs there instructed me how to care for him...as I was taught
1-moist wound healing with gauze below as a barrier, there is a specific
cream they used but virually it was vaseline like
2-as the skin peeled it was aired out to prevent infection and let the
skin grow
3-moisture moisture moisture on healing skin however as far as creams went
to help retain its feel, etc
4-no soap, cool water daily
5-silicone treatment to prevent scarring in that area
It sounds like her skin is not ready for air, etc yet as the blisters did
not come off on their own. That happened to my husband in a couple areas
and we had to keep them covered with the cream on top of the gauze for
awhile until the skin healed more. She should find a burn center near her
and maybe ask for a consult, she may have to nurse less on that side and
rely on hand expression to maintain supply and not get an infection from
being full but skin heals fast if treated well...good luck, contact a
specialist about treatment (not about breastfeeding, I am sure they would
say wean it would be easiest)
