I have seen this happen a few times in the hospital setting.  I have even 
walked in on dad breastfeeding his baby (numerous occasions).  In all 
instances, it was handled as a "teaching moment" to gently remind mom of 
the need for frequent, early breastfeeds at HER breasts.  None of these 
babies were having medical difficulties, though... Initially some of the 
staff thought we needed to write up an occurance, but after some 
discussion, it was clear there was nothing to "write up."  The bottom line 
is that it IS her baby, and we provided and documented the education we 
gave.
