There are lots of opportunities for getting hospital staff education that
don't involve company sponsorship. LC's can do inservices. Local car seat
initiatives, govt college savings programs, safe haven program folks (this
is to prevent abandonment), shaken baby program folks, lots of folks that
want to come and talk to nurses. Plus the educator can use the near term
infant issues cd rom from AWHONN, new breast anatomy cd rom from Medela,
post partum depression issues, interactive lochia estimation, cultural
differences, there are endless topics for education without taking the easy
but unethical and expensive way out. There may be email groups that
educators can join to help them. The 18 hour breastfeeding support class
can be taught 1 hour at a time. This adds up to a couple years worth of
topics. I have seen that AWHONN is mentioned in the so called educational
films from formula salesmen. Judy
