Becky, These aren't recent articles but MMWR(mortality, morbidity weekly reports) from CDC Sept 9 1994;43:641-642 has an article warning against giving infants under 6 months even a few ounces of water. It can lead to seizures due to lowered sodium levels, Infants are @ risk of water intoxication due to their immature renal function." Pediatric Alert" September 15, 1994 also carried an article RE/ the subject. Check the AAP statements as well as Academy of Breastfeeding medicine. The AAP put out a warning RE/ water for infants about the same time.
RE/ Breastfeeding and Allergies: You can get a transcript of the talk given on this subject @ the ILCA 2006 conference by Rachelle Lessen MS,RD, IBCLC.
Hope this helps,
Chris Erland RN IBCLC
