With regards to magazines covers and nipple rape.
"It's hard to avoid offending the willing-to-be-offended."
This is a memorable quote from Diane Wiessinger, which I copied from
Lactnet many years ago.
My personal take on the Baby Talk article in two major American media
outlets (I saw it first on CNN on-line) is "....Yes!" Breastfeeding in
public is entering the public discourse! And since the vast majority of
Americans are NOT offended by public nursing, this is going to help the
majority solidify their approval. This will make it harder for
institutions to try to prevent something that most approve.
I agree, the negative reactions are disheartening, but this is also a
boost to the majority opinion- because people read those negative things
and think "Good grief- get a life!"
Regards,
Sue Jacoby, IBCLC
Fresno CA where we just suffered 4 straight days of 113 degree heat- and
20 people died from heat related causes.
