Why would they give general anesthesia for a lingual frenulum!!! Do they do that for circumcisions? Or was this a major frenuloplasty involving sutures, etc.? Post op instructions would include suck-training, if needed, evaluate baby for milk transfer, if needed. We do frenulectomies in our office (actually NP or MD does). Takes 2 seconds and pop the baby on the breast. MOm can tell immediately if it was sufficient or if further efforts needed. If baby needs re-training, we use Haberman feeders and side-lying position. Mom pumps to ensure adequate supply.

Subject: Looking for patient discharge instructions for post-op infant
ligual frenectomy
Have a 25 day old baby who underwent anesthesia for lingual frenectomy,
first one done here on young baby. Successfully nursed after recovery,
but OR / Recovery Room staff very uncomfortable with procedure and did not
respond to this mother's recovery needs to breastfeed. I am looking for
discharge instructions for out-pt surgery to have in the future for
patients and also a parent information sheet for breastfeeding pre & post
procedure. Please if you can email me privately it would be greatly
appreciated! Thanks.
