Hi all
This is pure extrapolation but here is my thinking on this.
The US Dept of Health and Human services notes that breastfed infants of
mothers who are HepC+ have the same rate of infection as infants who are
artificially fed. Assuming that the infant is infected, I would suggest
that s/he needs the immumological support that only breastfeeding provides.
Health Canada states that HIV infected infants of HIV+ mothers should, in
theory, be breastfed (but it is not yet possible to determine newborn HIV
status with any accuracy) so I can't see how the situation would be any
different for Hepatitis.
That said, I am sure that there is someone on this list who knows for sure.
Otherwise, try a search using google scholar. If there is a paper you need
and can't get access to, I am sure one of us will have it.
