Hi All,
In answer to the question of is it possible to develop an abscess/mastitis
with no fever - yes.
I have had many moms who presented with Mastitis symptoms and no fever -
red, sore breast, no lumps (plugs) but sore area, firm and warm to the
touch. Bed rest, ibuprofen and good drainage usually help it resolve
quickly. In regards to abscess - I had a couple clients in the same month
who both developed abscesses without the normal course of symptoms.was
really quite odd. One mom developed 2 within 3 wks of each other. No other
signs other that a lump in the breast that continued to get larger - would
not drain with pumping. Dr did a needle drainage found pus and did a full
surgical drainage for both. She never had another one to my knowledge.
Warmly,
Jaye
