Dear Susan:
"Don't be afraid of the scale. Get to know it. Use it. Analyze it.
Then figure out if and when it might helpful to you. When it might be useful
is likely to be different depending upon your clientele, setting and
population.
But don't blame the scale. It is not dispensing the advice. Its an
inanimate object that can be used effectively or ineffectively. Not more than
that."

Fabulous post that articulates all my thoughts.
The scale is just another tool; it can be used or abused. The thoughtful
practitioner puts the scale along with nipple shields, feeding tubes at
breast, and alternative feeding methods as tools in the toolbox, to be used when
needed.
I used to ask my childbirth classes what tool they would use to dig a
hole. The answers ranged from a shovel to a backhoe. Only very, very rarely
would someone ask what sort of hole was to be dug.
If you are planting seedlings, you might use your hand to dig a hole in
soft dirt. If you are making a hole for the foundation of a house, you would
use a backhoe. Just as with breastfeeding, what sort of hole are you in?
