hello ladies- i am working with a 4 mo twins mom (same one i posted about
a couple of weeks ago, thanks for all the info!) permission to post. she
is wondering if it is possible to do longterm or even short term damage to
the breast from exclusive pumping. she is currently using a medela
classic and has experimented with different sizes of falanges. she uses
it on the lowest setting. i have suggested using a different pump and she
is currently trying just a pump in style. her milk supply is well
established and finds that the pain sometimes interferes with MER. what
about a whittlestone?
she often feels like the pumping is bruising the insides of her breasts
and describes them as purplish often after pumping. i have not seen them
in this state. they seem to look normal to me but i can understand that
her breasts might be simply tired of being pumped! with a baby nursing
you at least get all the good hormones and a mouth moving around your
breast depending on the position. but this seems like a bit of weariness
and overstimulation. but has anyone heard of actual damage to the breast
itself, not the nipple? thanks!
