I had a very gentle, private rebuke from a list member who pointed out that
putting being a soldier first was a matter of law. I would agree! And add
that with an all-volunteer force especially, it is a matter of duty and they
really don't have cause for complaint.
What I was trying to say is that I don't think these mothers really take it
in that they could be deployed without their babies and that their feelings
and priorities are about to change drastically when they decide to stay in
after the baby's birth. I wish our entire culture did a better job of
educating mothers-to-be about the reality of wanting to be with your baby,
and your baby wanting you and not any substitute. Not very likely in a
culture whose highest goal is fulfilling yourSELF.
