Renee: We recently got rid of all (most?) of the retractable badge holders
advertising ABM as well as other products, including the Medela badge
holders. The reason? None of us gets paid by any of these companies to
advertise their product. The staff, including physicians, etc. have been
asked to use the hospital's badge holder, which is an unadorned purple
(corporate color). This "policy" change was announced at a recent staff
meeting, those in attendance were given a new badge holder, and the rest
were asked to stop in the nurses' report room and pick one up from a
basketful prominently placed on the table. Most staff seems to have
complied with this request. I have noticed since then, some of the staff
wearing beaded chains which have recently become popular in our area for a
number of things from glasses holders to badge holders. I myself switch
off - the one I'm currently using says "Breastfeeding: Keeping Moms and
Babies Together" that I got a conference. My oldest daughter made me a
beaded chain that has baby blue and pink beads, along with my name spelled
out in the alphabet beads that used to be used for a baby's hospital ID
band, before the less "cute" paper/plastic ones now in use. I still have
my originals - one band spells out my last name, the other my mother's
hospital room. My mom tells me they went around each of my ankles. I'm
sure some of us older folks remember these well!
Thanks, Kris, for getting the ball rolling here!
