Need some help on this one!
A co-worker has been breastfeeding her 8 month old since birth without
problems. She pumps while at work (2 -3 x per day)
One month ago, she experienced what she thought was a plugged duct (hard,
sore area on breast). This resolved, somewhat, with heat and massage.
After a few days, the pain returned - worsened. She was prescribed diflucan
(intraductal yeast) and dicloxicillin (mastitis) one week ago.
Now, the pain is unbearable! She reports to double over in pain when/if
she feeds on affected breast - she can only pump that side (getting very
little volume), right now - which is also very painful. After
breastfeeding or pumping, the pain continies for a couple of hours.
I have instructed her to contact her HCP. In the meantime, any thoughts??

I would think the meds would have resolved the yeast and mastitis by now.
Thanks,
Becky Lyons, LD, IBCLC
