Hello, All: I don't want to start a debate on whether to circ or not to
circ. Friday, I overhead one of our OBs challenging a nurse when she told
him that circumcision before 24 hours of age can negatively impact
breastfeeding learning in the baby. He wanted to know: "Who told you
that? Pam?" He didn't see me standing at the other end of the nurses'
station, but I butted in to get the nurse off the hook. I briefly
explained some of the issues to him and his response was: "You're making
this up. Right?" I repeated some of the explanation I had just given him
and he turned to the nurse and said: "All right. No circ today." Woo-
hoo! I got him to listen to us! Now, I certainly want to follow up with
an information packet I can distribute to the OBs offices, as well as a
parent education packet that can be given out in our prenatal classes.
Anyone got anything they put together and would be willing to share?
Ideally, I would like to develop a protocol that would delay a circ
definitely the 1st 24 hours and possibly up to 3 days for those moms who've
had a C-section and will be with us longer.
