Thanks to Joanna Koch for posting the info on colostrum amounts over the
first 5 days. That info has always fascinated and puzzled me. I have just
had to go on faith that Mother Nature knew what she was doing when she
designed our system of infant feeding for humans.

So the article by Zangen et al (which I posted about yesterday) gave me
something besides faith to go on. I think that article will help us get
further with the people who want "proof." Yes, *we* believe that mothers
make the right amounts to meet the baby's needs in the first week, but
people with a bottle-feeding model in their minds don't think that way. And
there are plenty of newborns who can wolf down an ounce or two or more at
their first bottle feeding. The fact that those babies exist then makes the
bottle-minded people think there's something wrong with the others who take
in barely 10-20 ccs.

This is one problem with having bottles so freely available in a birth
environment (which is the norm in U.S.hospitals). People take the bottle as
the default position and treat breastfeeding as an abnormal variation...when
it should be the other way round!
