Ladies,
I come across this during hurricanes in Florida, and the story of Kati
Kim is no exception. Kati Kim was stuck in a car with NO heat after the first
day in freezing temperatures in the Oregon wilderness. She breastfed her
two daughters, ages 4 years and 7 months until they were rescued NINE days
later. Mother and daughters are in good condition. I seriously doubt that the
outcome would have been this POSITIVE if she was NOT breastfeeding both
daughters.
I know I am preaching to the choir, but we all must echo this story in
all our communities. Breastfeeding provides milk at the right temperature,
amount, and freshness throughout the day. No matter how old the baby becomes
it is still the superior human food. Those women who wonder why they are
still nursing need to lift their heads a bit higher today, and realize that they
are providing a fabulously wonderful health benefit that would be the most
resourceful act during environmental catastrophe. During times of emergency,
breastfeeding saves the precious lives of our children!
