Nikki,
That was my thinking exactly. The baby is on and latching...on the
nipple only. The shield will
only reinforce this won't it. My objective was to get baby on the
nipple+areola area. Since the
baby is only on the nipple, I was instructing mom on compression to
help get some of the milk
manually down into the nipple area since the baby may not be doing
such a good job. Will the negative
pressure of the baby's suck be enough to allow milk transfer? I
guess that needs to be proven via
BM's and wt checks right? I'm going in again this evening so I will
be checking on this mom if she
is still in the hospital. That is part of the issue. I'm not there
everyday and mom's leave in 24-48 hrs.
So while waiting for 24hrs for a baby to really get going is ideal,
the fact is an LC may only be there in
the first 24hrs and not the second. How do I deal with that?
