As a firefighter, I managed to pump for at least a year with both of my
babies and had a lot of hazards to deal with from toxins in smoke, to dealing
with people injured on the street, homes and in cars.
When I went back to work I went back after a long absence due to pregnancy
and had to go back on an 8 hour day. I only stayed on the 8 hour day for 4
days before begging to go back on my 24 hour platoon. They did offer to keep
me down there on light duty for a month. But I was able to spend a lot more
time with my baby on my firefighter schedule.
I would think after having a baby if there is a light duty desk job
available the police department would offer it to her if she asked.
